Dentist Blog

It can be hard to guard your mouth against the harmful bacteria that cause abscesses. Not only can abscesses cause your mouth pain, they can lead to worse and more harmful dental diseases. Fortunately, there are several things that you can do, right from home, that will help ease the pain and discomfort that abscesses cause. Using one of the two natural home remedies will not only benefit the cleanliness of your mouth, they will also help guard against harmful bacterias to keep your mouth healthy.

Green Tea Leaves

One of the best ways to clear your mouth of any harmful bacterias is with astringents, however, many astringents that are available can cause stinging and discomfort to the infected area. Green tea leaves, however, are a natural home remedy that is astringent. It will soothe the pain from the abscess, while cleaning out the toxins in your gums. Green tea leaves will also minimize the amount of pain and reduce gum swelling. To use green tea leaves to aid in the pain management of an abscess, you need to follow these simple steps.

Step One: Boil a pot of green tea leaves on your stove top.

Step Two: Once the water has come to a boil, strain the leaves over your sink.

Step Three: Allow the leaves a little time to cool off and then place them directly to the abscess.

Once the leaves have come in contact with your gums, they will clean out the toxins from the abscess and the process to healing will begin immediately. You will want to do this twice a day to help minimize swelling and pain.

Garlic Cloves

Many people think that the taste of pure garlic is unsavory; however, you shouldn't let that stop you from using them on an abscess. Garlic cloves are recommended for treating various mouth conditions from home because of their natural properties. When applied directly to an abscess, the garlic cloves will drain the toxins in the abscess and will remove any harmful bacterias in your mouth. Garlic cloves will also help ease the pain and swelling on your gums that is associated with abscesses.

Step One: Carefully drain the juice out of six garlic cloves into a small dish.

Step Two: Soak a cotton ball in the juice and massage it directly into the abscess.

Massaging the garlic clove juice into the abscess will help it to heal faster by causing the toxins to drain faster. The massaging motion will also help to ease any discomfort you may be experiencing.

You should never wait for an abscess to heal on its own. By doing that, you will only put yourself through more discomfort and make your mouth susceptible to even more infections. By using one of these two fairly common household ingredients, you will be on your way to a happy and comfortable mouth in no time. Fluoride: Why I Drink Tap Water

When the bottled water craze began, I jumped on the bandwagon with everyone else who was drinking water from bottles instead of from the tap. I wasn't sure why bottled water was healthier, but I liked the taste. When I went for my next dental check-up, I had my first cavity in a while, so I had it filled and didn't think much of it. Well, I had two more during my next check-up after that, and I began trying to think of why my teeth were suddenly going bad. The only change in my habits was the switch to bottled water, so I made the switch back to tap water and my teeth began to improve. I created this blog to encourage others who have begun getting cavities suddenly to look into their changes in habits. They may find they made a change similar to mine.
